Doll Parts Go Home Decor!

I can't quite wrap my arms around this....
bah-dump pow (me using a small snare drum and cymbal).

This wreath is quite unique.  My initial opinion is suffering from bewilderment. Then....I immediately switch to numerous questions:

1.  what place would this home decor item best enhance its surroundings?

2. would this wreath, by most observing folk, find it to be:
a.  pleasing
b. freakish
c.  excellent use of re purposing doll parts
d. all the above

3.  what expression does your face create when you first see it?

4.  would you drop $45 to adorn your door or wall with it?

Now, let's make this perfectly clear....I'm not a "hater" for the wreath....not a "lover" of the wreath...just find it a visual that formulates a lot of unanswered questions.

What about you?

Sewing Buttons and Doilies!

In the middle of moving and packing I unearthed a box with an unfinished project.  I think this endeavor began two years ago.
It started with this beautiful hand crocheted doily with little linen coins creating the base.

I do not use doilies too much, but this one was so different.  My intention was to create a pillow with it. ...obviously, I put it in a box under my bed...and I haven't seen it since....until....TODAY!
About eight of the buttons were sewn on...and a baggy full of buttons.

So, in the middle of moving and packing I sat down and finished sewing the buttons on.  Like I needed to do this TODAY?

But, it did turn out cute!
Now...how many years before it  becomes a pillow?

Celebrating Veterans Day!

I have often mentioned my affection for a small town near me, Ringgold, GA.  My favorite junking spots....junking peeps....and mexican food are quietly nestled in this little town.

I vividly remember the first time I passed through the town while the flags were up, I was amazed.  This town honors its Veterans three times a year (July 4th, Memorial Day and Veterans Day) with beautiful American Flags.  The town and all its streets are covered with American Flags.  The base of each flag lists a Veterans Name and the war in which they lost their life.  There must be hundreds of flags everywhere.  It is a vision that makes you breathless.

Happy Veterans Day!

Oddities!

Just when you can't imagine you could stumble across anything stranger than the last oddity you found, the window of "you have got to be kidding me?" opens with a thrust of velocity!  When one shops at the 'mall' certain inventory is expected, but when shopping at an estate sale...flea market....antique store....or yard sale, the bar codes are non-existent.  The thrill of the hunt is not always the expectation of goods you want, but the surprise of discovering the things you don't want...but, curiously enjoy seeing.

I have many friends and acquaintances who inevitably ask me, "why do you enjoy digging in someones junk?"  Well, this photograph clearly answers the question.

At what point in life do you touch or feel fake teeth and gums until you personally need them?

I have never seen, nor touched, brand new velvet boxed false teeth, but I do admit a wee bit of freaky fascination in that I would like to.  A curiosity to feel faux gums and teeth exist within me.  This odd wonderment on my part has now officially been checked off the bucket list. Consider it felt.
FYI:  not a a big deal, just rubbery and teeth-like.

There you have it...an oddity. Check.

Repurposed Vintage Wallpaper Table!

One of my favorite estate sale company's...Robin's Nest, always has fabulous finds.  I was working for her a few months ago and this wallpaper table was folded into itself in the basement.  I personally had no idea what it was!  Robin enlightened me....and I HAD to have it.

It was raw wood...abnormally long (8', because you did use it to slap glue on wallpaper in long strips)...and was quite thin in width (only 20")...had these skinny little legs...and voila....a weird serving table for my dining room.

This is the top prior to cleaning and sanding.  Note the metal edge nailed to the top for nice straight wallpaper edge cutting.

These are the skinny little wood legs marred with paint.

This is the top after cleaning, sanding and staining.

I painted the legs a dreamy shade of teal-ish...blue-ish.

This is the end result.  I love it!

Never underestimate the power of re-purposing and stretching the boundaries of the original use of mundane items.  Make decor interesting....invite "what is that?" questions.

Country Living Fair 2013 Funky Furniture!

Since quilts are my fave....this version of a quilt chest was quite fabulous!
Simple sections of a a quilt just glued on to the panels and drawers of a chest.
Kind of cute.

Nothing more yummy to see than funky colored furniture sitting in the woods or hanging from a tree.  Surprise the abnormal with more abnormality!
All good.

This is quite vogue...the use of afghans as upholstery.  Not quite sure of the practicality of this use, but I am thoroughly enjoying the look!

In love with the green

This chair is so happy!

I think the miss-match is wonderful...not sure I have the guts to do it this much....feel certain my honey would question this on a mental level.  Atheistically pleasing!

Note the "HAPPY" falling down the tree.

Enough said.

Enjoy!
